History of the Venetian Room:
Designed in 1913 by architect Joel Hurt, the Hurt Building is one of Atlanta’s earliest skyscrapers. Its design incorporates classic architecture with modern amenities such as LEED-EB Gold Certification, 9 Story Parking Garage, Marble Lobby and Entrance, Marta access and WI-FI.
The Hurt Building is strategically located between the Central Business District, Government District, and Georgia State University. It has been a member of the National Register of Historic Places since 1977, it remains one of the most highly visible, recognizable and architecturally important examples of early skyscraper construction in America.
The main entrance of The Hurt Building is through a domed rotunda, which sits at the apex of the building. At the top of the dome is an elaborate chandelier and a ceiling decorated with sunbursts and panels of gold leaf and rosettes. The building stands 18 floors in height. The restaurant located inside The Hurt Building was once home to City Grill and prior to that part of the Federal Reserve Bank. In April 2011 Southern Hospitality Management leased the restaurant space naming it Venetian Room. With the unique talent of Michael Habacy and his design team Venetian Room has a new modern feel. The recent renovations include fresh paint covering City Grill’s wall murals, contemporary light fixtures, upgraded light and sound system, and new carpet throughout.
Today The Hurt Building is home to such businesses as Central Atlanta Progress, Harbor Group Management, and The Atlanta Woman’s Foundation. Venetian Room is proud to be a part of the history at this building and serve Atlanta.
